Lions Heart Sunset

Upper Geyser Basin, Yellowstone National Park, WY

The Heart Spring is one of my favorite geothermal features situated in the Upper Geyser Basin next to the Lion Group of geysers. The spring overlooks the broad array of geysers that surround Old Faithful. It's placid waters act as a mirror to the sky and I love the reflections it creates. On this evening the sky put on a wonderful sunset show with an amazing deep red and pink sky. In the distance a small break in the clouds lit up a group of geysers. I was chatting with another photographer who happened to be standing near me and I commented that what would make this a truly amazing experience is if the Lion Geyser would erupt. And, not thirty seconds later the Lion Geyser erupted in full force.
